Abstract
Since the early nineties, New Delhi has adopted a policy of “Look East” to Asia Pacific, developed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narasimha Rao and continued by his successor, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Given the rise of China, which continues the construction of a deep sea fleet, according to his aggressive policy in the South China Sea, New Delhi is seeking new allies and new strategies to balance the superiority of Beijing in the Indian Ocean. This report aims to provide an analysis of the relations between India and South-East Asia, considering the shift to “Act East” policy and the continuing dichotomy between competition and cooperation in the Indo-Chinese relations.
